EU Defence Network is a project that aims at the improvement of media literacy levels among young people by training media literacy experts who can work with youth in schools and in non-formal contexts. Specifically, the project targets Euroscepticism, which has recently moved towards mainstream political and popular culture. This phenomenon is due to a deliberate, large-scale, and systematic spreading of disinformation, which undermines the European democratic processes that the EU is based on and threatens the legitimacy of the process of European integration.
Focusing on the detection and exposure of trending narratives, disinformation channels, and disinformation techniques, the ambitious aim of this project is to channel criticism of the EU into a positive driver for the European integration and help the EU come closer to its citizen. By increasing the level of media literacy among the youth, we want to create citizens who are no longer vulnerable to and easily impressed by Eurosceptic narratives.
