A Guide to the Evaluation of Heritage and Natural Resources.
The Panorama project is a two year programme funded by Grundtvig with partners from Spain (lead partner), Lithuania and Northern Ireland (Castlereagh Enterprises Ltd).
The main objectives of the partnership are:
· To develop a step by step guide to the evaluation of heritage and natural resources which will provide core criteria for use in evaluating potential resources for alternative enterprise and agri-tourism. The criteria will help in the determination of what resources are significant and will provide a simple system for interested stakeholders to evaluate the potential of their natural and heritage environment to create employment.
·To help farmers make informed decisions so the steps they take will increase income, sustain the farm and conserve natural resources
·To promote care for the environment among local people
·To help those who live in rural communities to adapt to new economic conditions and enable them to make full use of the resources they have at hand.
·To encourage young people to consider their rural environment as a source of profitable income
On July 22nd and 23rd the partners visited Northern Ireland for a project meeting; during this meeting they viewed examples of people who have used their heritage and natural resources to generate income. The aim of these visits is to see examples of best practice in Northern Ireland, and to share experiences and information among the partners. The partners visited Vista Allotments (www.vistaallotments.com) and Meelmore Lodge in Newcastle Co-Down (www.meelmorelodge.com).
The group are currently developing the contents for a guide to be used across Europe to evaluate natural resources and heritage.
