The Covid-19 crisis reminded us again of the urgently needed transition to a greener economy addressed in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Thus, green economy is the economy of the future. To reach a green economy on the one hand innovations are required and on the other hand workforce needs to be prepared for future jobs emerging. In this regard it is proven that gender equality, also anchored in the SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals), is a crucial aspect.
The traditional gender work division is still recognizable with men representing a majority of the workforce in brown as well as in green economy. However, women are considered an important part for reaching green economy.
The Women4Green project draws on this and aims at inspiring young women to decide for professions in this future-relevant field, providing them with the knowledge required to do so. Thus, the main goals of this project are:
- raising young women’s awareness and interest in future relevant, green economy jobs and the skills needed
- empowering young women to decide for green economy job
- providing guidance of how to increasingly interest and recruit young women for future green economy jobs
- contributing to gender equality in green economy jobs
In order to achieve this goals, five project partners from four countries (Austria, Italy, Sweden and Turkey) are working on six different project results that build on each other:
- RESULT 1: CATALOGUE OF GREEN PROFESSIONS AND SKILLS
On the one hand the developed catalogue is giving a comprehensive insight in what green economy jobs are in each country and which specific competences/skills are required as well as an evaluation to which extent green economy jobs are already approached in career orientation. On the other hand, it will comprise an outlook on the future development in this field giving an overview about the future skills required and also show the needs in career orientation in this regard. - RESULT 2: CONCEPT OF LEARNING EXPERIENCE (Didactic Concept and Curriculum)
A competence- and learning goals-oriented didactic concept for the whole learning experience is going to be developed based on the educational-theoretical and learning-psychological background, defining concrete goals, contents, methods and didactic principles taking specifically a gender equal approach into account.
Additionally, the curriculum for the learning material will be designed based on the gathered results of Project Result 1. - RESULT 3: PODCAST DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNITY BUILDING
Community building is emphasized over the whole project duration which will be facilitated by providing a common platform for exchange gathering interested young women and good practices for exchange on the one hand and conducting different workshops with experts and role models in the field on the other hand. Furthermore, for the provision of additional inspirational and attractive input Podcast episodes are generated. - RESULT 4: LEARNING MATERIAL
Learning material is going to be established for the target group of young women in job orientation to get a better insight into what the green economy is, which are the future jobs in this field and which skills are required and what are the potential educational and career paths. - RESULT 5: WORKSHOP DESIGN FOR CAREER ORIENTATION
To successfully guide and accompany young women towards a career in the green economy field an experiential WORKSHOP setting, applicable for career orientation, is developed. Additionally, a GIRLS DAY will be organized which allows young women to get a direct insight into one green job in every country. - RESULT 6: GUIDE FOR YOUTH CAREER COUNSELLING AND RECRUITING
The developed GUIDE provides a methodological guidance for career counselling as well as companies to attract specifically women to take on a career in a green economy job and thus contribute to an inclusive green economy.
